Vestige

Vestige is a thriller following a group of friends whose vacation takes an unexpected turn after arriving at a rented house. While I can’t reveal much before its release, it was one of the most fun productions I’ve worked on so far.

The film brought together a crew of both familiar faces and new collaborators, creating a fun atmosphere while still maintaining a focused production.

I worked as Second Assistant Camera, Sound Recordist, and Behind-the-Scenes Photographer.

As 2nd AC, I assisted the camera department by keeping track of shot logs, supporting the team throughout the shoot. I couldn’t help too much with the camera as it was a Sony FX6 and I’ve never used one. We initially used a slate before eventually setting it aside when it stopped being practical during production.

Alongside camera, I recorded production sound and captured behind-the-scenes photos and videos whenever there was an opportunity between setups. Being positioned close to the camera department made it easy to document the production without interrupting the workflow.

The production also included several practical effects, including creating fake blood for one of the scenes, which was pretty cool. More than anything, Vestige reminded me how much there still is to learn about cinematography, and it pushed me to keep improving my skills. Vestige has to be one of my favorite sets so far! Vestige was one of those productions that reminded me why I enjoy being on set so much. Working across camera, sound, and behind-the-scenes photography gave me a better understanding of how different departments rely on each other. It also made me realize there’s still so much I want to learn about cinematography, and that every production is another opportunity to improve.
